THE APPLICATION PROCESS
|
POSITIVE ACTION WITH APPLICATION FORMS
- Don’t rush it! Find or make time and find a quiet place to complete
the form.
- Read the instructions and follow them, e.g. fill in black ink
if asked, attach anything they ask for, e.g. evidence of qualifications,
curriculum vitae, cover letter.
- Keep your application form neat-type if possible (unless asked
to complete in writing).
- Draft the application on a separate copy first, before completing
original – no crossing out or mountains of Tipp-Ex!
- Check the spelling and grammar – get someone to read it and check
for you and listen to what they have to say! A look with fresh eyes
is often very revealing, your tired eyes will almost certainly miss
things.
- Read the job description and person specifications that will almost
certainly accompany the application form.
- Try to match the person specifications with your skills and experience
in the personal statement / reasons for applying section.
- Make a copy for your reference at interview; some questions will
be based on what you’ve written.
- Enclose a brief cover letter, unless they ask for something else,
with the application form. You may want, or need, to include important
information not on the application form, but keep it brief and to
the point – same rules about neatness etc. apply!
- Post in time to the named person or department with reference
numbers if required.
