The overall aim of the programme is to provide the learner with the opportunity to develop the required knowledge, skills and competence in healthcare support in order to meet the standards set by the awarding body in the award specification for Healthcare Support.

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: No formal education or qualifications are required although applicants may have participated in primary and secondary education. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate a standard of knowledge, skill and competence equivalent to NFQ Level 4 when accessing a Level 5 programme.
  • Aptitude: Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.
  • Previous Experience: Applicants must be able to demonstrate a moderate range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course, be able to work with responsibility and demonstrate the ability to work on their own initiative.

The objectives of this programme are as follows: 
• To enable the learner to explore healthcare support with a view to reskilling or upskilling and exploring concepts and subject areas that may interest the learner in future programmes or employment 
• To support the learner to acquire the theoretical, practical and interpersonal knowledge, skill and competence to provide quality care and assistance to service users based on age, ability and health of the individual 
• To enable the learner to communicate effectively with and contribute to the social and emotional needs of service users
